Squidward only ever makes artwork based off his visage, it’s all very surface level and lacks any emotional depth
Squidward should start making artwork based on how Squidward feels and not how Squidward looks yknow? I feel like he’s experimented plenty with self portraits, but none of them really say much about Squidward as a person yknow
got drunk last night and got really emotional over Squidward’s potential and how much he holds himself back
One of the best tips for writing descriptions of pain is actually a snippet I remember from a story where a character is given a host of colored pencils and asked to draw an egg.
The character says that there’s no white pencil. But you don’t need a white pencil to draw a white egg. We already know the egg is white. What we need to draw is the luminance of the yellow lamp and the reflection of the blue cloth and the shadows and the shading.
We know a broken bone hurts. We know a knife wound hurts. We know grief hurts. Show us what else it does.
You don’t need to describe the character in pain. You need to describe how the pain affects the character - how they’re unable to move, how they’re sweating, how they’re cold, how their muscles ache and their fingers tremble and their eyes prickle.
Draw around the egg. Write around the pain. And we will all be able to see the finished product.
a little bloody mary comic idea I had last halloween
[image ID: a four page digital comic.
panel 1: a thin woman with long dark hair and light skin is seen from behind sitting in front of a vanity mirror in a room full of mirrors. text placed on the back of her head reads, “lots of people know my name.”
panel 2: a group of school girls gather around a mirror in a dark school bathroom lit with candles as one of them writes “bloody mary” on the mirror. text on one of the girls’ backs reads, “I get calls all the time.”
panel 3: the girls run out of the bathroom screaming. text: “but no one is ever happy to see me.”
panel 4: a curvy person with light skin and a partially shaved head half-laid out on the floor of a bedroom looks startled as bloody mary emerges from a full-length mirror in front of them. text: “when they don’t run away[…]”
panel 5: the person is shown from behind as they hold up a polaroid to bloody mary. text: “they ask me, hunched and trembling, to perform curses and hexes for them.”
panel 6: bloody mary shown halfway through a mirror. text: “I never quite know how to respond.”
panel 7: bloody mary has her head down on her vanity desk. text: “no one ever calls just to see me.”
panel 8: a darker-skinned hand with long black nails writes bloody mary’s name on a mirror with red lipstick in a candlelit room. text: “no one[…]”
panel 9: bloody mary emerges from the mirror in front of a darker-skinned woman with two buns and red lipstick, who is smiling. no text.
panel 10: bloody mary is shown up close as the woman tucks mary’s hair behind he ear, showing more of her ghostly face, and a bright red lipstick kiss mark on her cheek. text: “except her.”
panel 11: bloody mary sits in her mirror room admiring the kiss mark on her cheek with a hand mirror. no text. end ID.]
For those who don’t know, Steve Jackson Games was raided by the Secret Service in 1990, and all copies of the then-upcoming GURPS Cyberpunk were confiscated. Though this was bad for the company financially (they were set back months on a major project, and had to do layoffs), it did lend a certain air of pizazz to their product.
They ended up suing the government, and won. This was the first high-profile case for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which successfully sued on behalf of the company, winning around $300,000 in the case.
- when the person kidnapped by the villain is all ‘no one’s going to come for me’ and
- someone does, but it’s the person they’d least expect
- EVERYONE COMES because wow, maybe I am depressed because I didn’t think I knew this many people, much less that they liked me
- no one comes and the villain gets pissed on their captive’s behalf and treats them better than their former associates did
- they rescue themselves and everyone’s so impressed but the person yells because I AM CAPABLE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST NOTICED I’D BEEN KIDNAPPED
- they get rescued by a deus ex machina, preferably their dad/mom/grandma/old associate who is exponentially cooler than the heroes
basically, I like it when people get rescued and get validation
Can I add: people getting rescued by their pets.
I also really love when a person gets kidnapped and is utterly unsfraid because they know that a specific person is coming for them and oh boy did that villain make a mistake kidnapping them.
“the colony can regenerate injured parts or continue growing after being broken apart. Unless all individual clones are killed at the same time, a colony can theoretically live forever”
werewolves can be anything. they can be ANYTHING if you just believe. metaphor for trans. metaphor for gay. metaphor for autism. metaphor for disability. metaphor for anger issues. metaphor for generational trauma. metaphor for mental illness. metaphor for addiction. metaphor for wanting to kill someone. you can do anything with them truly
